What is a Patient Participation Group (PPG)?

The PPG movement was formed approximately 30 years ago. PPGs can be very flexible and have developed to meet the changing needs of the Patients, Doctors and Staff in their Practice. They usually work with a Committee elected from within the Group, and draw up a Constitution.

The Group aims to:

  • Develop a two way communication between Doctors, Surgery Staff and Patients, giving the opportunity to discuss topics of mutual interest within the Practice.

  • Encourage Health Education activities within the Practice. This will include talks and events on subjects such as:

    • Looking after your heart, Living with Arthritis

    • How to manage conditions such as Asthma.

    • Understanding different forms of cancer, the symptoms, treatment and side effects.

The Group meets quarterly to discuss matters affecting the Practice and the Patients. We appreciate the help and backing of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, support and administrative staff, and the patients, in helping the Practice to give the best possible healthcare in our community. Patients and staff are encouraged to come forward with suggestions and ideas for the Practice, and for future talks, meetings and fundraising.

The Participation Group is made up of Patients of the Practice who live in:

Beckley, Brede, Brenzett, Broad Oak, Brookland, Camber, East Guldeford, Icklsjham, Iden, Peasmarsh, Playden, Rye, Rye Harbour, Rye Foreign, Udimore, Winchelsea and Wittersham

If you would like to join the group, have any suggestions or would like to receive further information, please contact the group by posting your name and address in the confidential post box, situated in the main waiting area or send an email to the PPG Generic Email.

We should, however, point out that under the National Association of Patient Participation Groups rules we are not allowed to deal with complaints of a medical nature between doctors, staff and patients. These should be referred to the Practice Manager, and will remain confidential.
